All About Books

Our first week back after Spring Break has been a busy one! With our 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders taking the Georgia Milestones, we have a little bit of a funky schedule, but managed to make it work 🙂 In writer’s workshop each child has been working on writing a non-fiction text about an animal that they have chosen. Before Spring Break we began the process by researching the animals using non-fiction books from the library and animal fact print outs. Each child found information about what their animal looks like, what it eats, where it lives, and fun facts. They put this information into their “parking lots” — not a place where they park a car, but a place where they park their IDEAS! 🙂 This really helped to keep all of our research organized. This week we have completed our front covers and “What a ______ Eats” page, complete with a picture and caption. Here are some amazing examples:

Today we finished “What a ______ Looks Like” and “Where a ____ Lives”. Next week we will wrap up our books with our last page, a table of contents, glossary, and Meet the Author page. Whew – it’s a lot of work but we are working so hard and I know the end products will be amazing! 🙂
