As an extension of our central idea that “Relationships Connect Communities”, we have been studying our world’s seven continents and four main oceans. In first grade children are expected to name and locate these features. We learned a little chant-like song which names the continents — if you haven’t heard it from your child yet, ask them about it 🙂 To help with the location process, each child made a map of the world. They were expected to color each continent a different color and we worked together to place the continents on the map. Yesterday we learned about the main oceans and labeled them on our maps. Finally, we read an awesome book that Ms. Marbut let us borrow called Atlantic. Here are a few snapshots of us getting started on our maps and then a few finished products.
