Our story this week, Curious George at School, is a great example of a fantasy story! Why? Ask your child! 🙂
We did an activity where we talked about the difference between reality (or realism) and fantasy. We first had a discussion about what a monkey can do in real life, or what we would find a monkey doing in a reality story. We drew pictures and wrote a sentence,Then, after we read Curious George, we were able to find something that a monkey could never do in real life, or things that happen in a fantasy story!
As you read nightly with your child, try and identify the genre of the story you read – find elements of the story that support your child’s ideas. This will really help to get them thinking about what they read and hear 🙂
