Understanding Characters

We are learning to identify and understand characters in the stories we read and hear. Characters are the people (or animals) in a story. Many kids in our class were able to say that a main character is the character which the story is mostly about. We watched a cute Brain Pop on characters and were able to identify some common characters that we know from stories – Clifford, Pete the Cat, David, Little Red Riding Hood, and so on. I read the class a great story called “Charlene Loves to Make Noise” and we identified Charlene as the main character. Each child drew a picture of this character and added words to describe her. Along with words, some students also added small phrases to help remember details about this important person.

As we read our story for the week in our Journeys book, we will continue working on finding characters and understanding why they are important 🙂
