Number Sentences

We have been extending our counting sequence to 120 over the past 3 weeks. We have counted by 1s, 2s, 5s, and 10s, and really worked hard to find patterns on the Hundred Chart. Our class can really manipulate and verbalize how they are finding different numbers and using their math tool!

This week we are going to be focusing on number sentences: equations with numbers and symbols. We created a flip book visual to help us remember the names of the different parts of a number sentence: addends, plus sign, equal sign, and sum (we are focusing on addition this week 🙂 ). Afterwards, we used another math tool, unifix cubes, to create numbers sentences that we then wrote in our notebooks and illustrated. Tomorrow I am excited to explore different ways to solve number sentences, including a number line, counting up, and illustrations. Stay tuned for more!

I met with Traci and Amber, our wonderful room moms, this morning and we discussed many things pertaining to this year. I have added links for our Sign-Up Genius volunteer opportunities under “Classroom Information“. Check it out and be sure to get signed up 🙂 Check your e-mail for a lovely welcome note, and be on the look-out for additional information we have for you!

See y’all tomorrow!
